Advertisers Drop Glen Beck – Finally

Several reports have surfaced describing the evacuation of advertisers from the Glen Beck show. In case you were under a rock, Beck recently accused Obama of being a racist. Geez. Obama a racist? It is about time that advertisers were held accountable to these ridiculous assertions.

Obama is being called many things these days in his effort to get healthcare reform passed. The Nazi signs are an amazing breach of sensibility. The absurdity is best depicted by the woman who accused Barney Frank of supporting Nazi policies. Nazi policies? And I loved Frank’s reply, “Talking to you would be like having a conversation with my dining room table.” Wake up, lady. Barney Frank is a Jew.

Free speech is great. People deserve the right to say what they want. But just because they say it does not mean it deserves attention or respect. Dial up the dialog, folks. Keep up the stupidity and we’ll end up with a Sarah Palin in the Whitehouse. Didn’t we learn that lesson from George Bush?

Cheney Asked for CIA Secrecy

Apparently Dick Cheney asked the CIA to withhold information about a counterterrorism program some 8 years ago. Surprise surprise.

What is most amazing is that the reason for keeping the program secret was because it had not developed to the point that they believed merited a congressional briefing, according to the USA today.

Let me get this straight. In 8 years, this program did not evolve into something of significance? This was a “minor” program that existed for 8 years but it was really too small to need all that messy oversight? History indicates that Dick doesn’t go lightly. Chances are that this program was just as active and just as big as any other effort that Dick made. The king of secrecy certainly has never admitted to wrong doing and will not on this occasion either.

Of course this doesn’t keep Pelosi from being an idiot. But she was right about one thing – the CIA withheld relevant information from Congress. And Cheney was behind this effort to withhold information.

Stimulus Package Increases the Great Divide

President Obama has been in office less than a month and it seems like many in our wonderful Congress are already looking past the present - the problems, issues, depression and such to see how they can position a power change in 2010.  Said the eloquent minority whip Eric Cantor, “I think the 2010 elections certainly will be a test for the mandate of change that this administration was elected with.”

I’m trying to think of a way to say STFU without using an expletive.  But anyway, is that what is at stake here?  The next election?

There was a huge spending spree in the Bush administration that gave us this mess and it shows no signs of slowing.  As much as I want the current efforts to succeed, it looks like more deficit spending and a hope to grow the economy by a societal spending spree.  Tax cuts?  The bill was compromised to bring in tax cuts for Republican votes (with a 0% success rate from House Republicans).  What happened to infrastructure?  Why can’t we do one, single thing that will benefit the nation for years to come?  How about a high-speed train from California to New York?  How about installing a solar panel on every house to boost the power grid?  How about paying off consumer credit with government loans rather than giving money to banks?

I’m bothered that the politics as usual is still the politics as usual.  And it is a disgrace that we have huge bills being pushed by incompetent, partisan leaders like Nancy Pelosi.  That methodology is NO different than the leadership of Boner or Delay.

At any rate, dressing in camo and hiding in the back woods of upstate New York won’t save the skins of the losers of this battle.  Hold on, the public will be the losers.  We will get a couple of “free” lunches in terms of tax relief and we won’t have better peanut butter, a high speed rail or a politician concerned with anything other than re-election.  And those that lose will just end up like poor Tom Daschle – rich.

Daschle Wears Red Glasses

I have read a few good posts about why Tom Daschle should not be leader of the Heath and Human Services department.  Namely, he stands for everything that Obama said he was against.

Though technically not a registered lobbyist, he was paid millions to advise lobbying firms who dealt in the health care industry.  Oh, and he also advised them on taxes.

Who advised him?  Forgot to pay $120k in taxes?  Give me a break.

Let’s put this in perspective, Dick Cheney was “technically” not a part of Halliburton when he served as veep of darkness.  We don’t need any more “technically correct” flim flam, thank you very much.  Be wise Obama – distance yourself, admit your mistake and find someone who has not enriched themselves with health care money.  And please find someone who has paid their taxes.

Daschle is a member of the old guard of Washington.  He is an insider.  He did what he did for years and he was run out of office.  He needed to step down from this appointment.

And FYI, Tom, you’re red glasses are goofy.

Reverend Lowery Should Turn the Page

Since the Inaguration, I have reflected on many things that I thought were quite inspiring about the event, but the benediction seemed to be stuck in my mind and I kept repeating the phrase, “…and the red man can get ahead, man.”

And it made me smile a bit. It was nifty. But I wanted to remember the rest so I looked it up.  It doesn’t sound so cute in print.

“…help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back,”

Ok, that’s cool. Making blacks move to the back of a bus was ridiculous. But that law was repealed decades ago. Move along.

“when brown can stick around,”

Sure, welcome Latinos who have moved here…legally.

“when yellow will be mellow,”

What? Like the Chinese will chill out and not go to war with Tiawan? Won’t call our debt? Will quit sending us poison toys? A little strange, but ok.

“when the red man can get ahead, man,”

Now, that’s just nifty and cool. I have some Cherokee blood. I think the Casino thing is messed up, but ok.

“and when white will embrace what is right.”

Hold on, what? What’s that supposed to mean? White’s don’t embrace what is right? How about a little dose of shut- the-f^ck-up, Mr. Lowery. Settle down and do what’s right yourself. Don’t diss white people as if they have never embraced right. White people fought and died in the fight against slavery. White people fought and died during the Civil Rights movement while they were doing what was “right”.  And a whole bunch of white people supported Obama. Millions of them.

So pray for the white people on your own time, reverend. And when you open your eyes and look around, you just might find that today’s problems are not simply black and white…or brown.
