Several reports have surfaced describing the evacuation of advertisers from the Glen Beck show. In case you were under a rock, Beck recently accused Obama of being a racist. Geez. Obama a racist? It is about time that advertisers were held accountable to these ridiculous assertions.
Obama is being called many things these days in his effort to get healthcare reform passed. The Nazi signs are an amazing breach of sensibility. The absurdity is best depicted by the woman who accused Barney Frank of supporting Nazi policies. Nazi policies? And I loved Frank’s reply, “Talking to you would be like having a conversation with my dining room table.” Wake up, lady. Barney Frank is a Jew.
Free speech is great. People deserve the right to say what they want. But just because they say it does not mean it deserves attention or respect. Dial up the dialog, folks. Keep up the stupidity and we’ll end up with a Sarah Palin in the Whitehouse. Didn’t we learn that lesson from George Bush?

Apparently Dick Cheney asked the CIA to withhold information about a counterterrorism program some 8 years ago. Surprise surprise.
What is most amazing is that the reason for keeping the program secret was because it had not developed to the point that they believed merited a congressional briefing, according to the USA today.
Let me get this straight. In 8 years, this program did not evolve into something of significance? This was a “minor” program that existed for 8 years but it was really too small to need all that messy oversight? History indicates that Dick doesn’t go lightly. Chances are that this program was just as active and just as big as any other effort that Dick made. The king of secrecy certainly has never admitted to wrong doing and will not on this occasion either.
Of course this doesn’t keep Pelosi from being an idiot. But she was right about one thing – the CIA withheld relevant information from Congress. And Cheney was behind this effort to withhold information.

Today former President George W. Bush criticized Obama’s policies. This can only mean one thing: Obama is on the right track.
Like a broken record repeating the mantra of “tax cuts”, Dubya said, “You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money.” Uh, right Mr. Former President, that’s probably why you went on a giant spending spree that, well, got us in this mess that Obama is trying to repair.
Oh, yeah. You are only talking about people who live off of their money’s interest and don’t actually work. Yeah, taxing those guys would be un-Bushlike indeed.
The timing couldn’t be better for Obama. While he is facing a bit of opposition from both sides of the isle, I’m sure he appreciates the comments of George Bush. Just do the opposite of Bizarro President and all should be well.
Oh, yeah, he did clarify one thing about Cheney, “At least when my vice president shot somebody, it was an accident.” Ahh, good times.

Sarah Palin has risen to the occassion again. She is outraged that David Letterman made a tasteless joke about one of her daughters. She and Todd accuse Letterman, among other things, of advocating rape.
The joke was making fun of Palin for advocating abstinence only while her teenage daughter becomes pregnant. The joke makes fun of A-rod for being a cheater. Letterman says he didn’t know the daughter that was at the referenced game was only 14 (Willow) and not 18 (Bristol). To his defense, Letterman probably didn’t even write the joke.
Regardless, here is an article that points out many other instances when comedians made tasteless jokes about Palin and her family.
Among them, when Palin and her then 13 year old daughter dropped the puck at a hockey game, Conan O’Brian joked, “Sarah Palin is going to drop the first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ hockey game. Then Palin will spend the rest of the game trying to keep the hockey players out of her daughter’s penalty box.”
Another joke delivered by Jay Leno: “Governor Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. Oh, boy, you thought John Edwards was in trouble before, now he’s really done it!”
Those are just a couple of former jokes. So where was all the outrage and calls for people to get fired when these jokes were delivered? So why all the outrage now? Better yet, why all the synchronized outrage right now?
The GOP wants the news cycle and they will use any means to get it. I never once thought of “rape” when hearing Letterman’s joke. But that word has been inserted to further feed the flames and keep the attention. That is tasteless at best.
Personally, I think Letterman is rather un-funny in general, and I wasn’t appaled by his joke at all. But this joke, this one joke at this time, has been elevated and promoted so much and twisted so much that I can’t help but wonder if anyone is really concerned about the feelings of the 14 year old girl.

Did Carl Levin actually bring out the “L” word against Cheney? Wow. It’s about time. According to the Michigan Messenger, Mr. Levin said that, “Mr. Cheney’s claims are directly contrary to the judgment of our FBI director, Robert Mueller, that no attacks on America were disrupted due to intelligence obtained through the use of those techniques.”
Cheney has been going around for weeks now talking about how the policy of using “enhanced interrogation techniques”, i.e., “not torture” (er, torture) during the Bush administration actually kept the United States safe. And now the Obama policy of actually following the law and Geneva Convention accords is making the United States vulnerable to attack.
And all this time we thought Cheney would evaporate into a plume of smoke if he exposed himself to sunlight. Who knew?
The thing that strikes me most is the fact that we prosecuted the Japanese for water boarding long ago. The precedent is there. The tactic of changing the word “torture” to “enhanced interrogation” is like changing the word “rape” to “enhanced touching”. Ironically, while they were talking about liberal “activist judges”, the Cheney camp was actively changing legal verbiage so that their twisted actions would be “legal”. It doesn’t make sense.
The more he talks, the more Cheney will implicate himself. But I”m not looking for Cheney to get prosecuted. A tarring and feathering would do just fine.
